The actual piercing part might last about 30 seconds. Add in all the prep time & it's maybe 5 minutes total, if that.
It doesn't really hurt. It's just very uncomfortable. It'll just feel like a little pinch & then a lot of pressure. But, depending on your tolerance for pain, it might hurt more or less. Everyone's different. It definitely hurts more while it's healing than actually getting it done. It'll feel really bruised & tender to the touch for a week or so (like if you've ever had one of those really bad-@ss big red pimples on your nose or in your ear...that's what I'd compare the healing pain to). If you have a tendency to pass out at all (I do), I recommend drinking some juice or having a couple cookies or granola bar or something right before & after, and remember to breathe.
