Not long ago, a friend of mine indicated that she wanted a hands-free holder in her car. She just bought a sexy little hybrid SmartCar type vehicle and was afraid to drive and talk at the same time. Especially because her car insurance just went up some 30% recently.
Perhaps, you've noted that your state now has a law against talking on a cell phone or text messaging on a smart phone while driving. Well, I am here to tell you that they mean business, and these tickets are not as cheap as you might think. So, you need to consider a Blue Tooth system, or a hands-free cradle for your car, this way you can still communicate without breaking the law while you are stuck in traffic.
Believe it or not, installing such a cradle system yourself is quite easy, even if you are not a Do-it-Yourself type. Below are tips for putting in a hands-free cellular phone holder or cradle in your car.
1.) First, you need to think a little about this before you start, because once you drill those holes, they will be there forever. If you have a leased car, you may be prohibited from drilling holes or adding things to your car, and if you do, you must turn it in with your car, not just leave the holes there when you trade-in your lease, something to remember.
2.) Sit in your car and decide where you wish to put the unit, and make sure it won't be in the way when you take passengers with you. Next, mark the holes with a magic market as you hold the device in place using the holes in its platform. You must be precise on this.
3.) Make sure there are no wires running underneath that area before you drill, you could easily end up cutting speaker wires, or other things. Also underneath the car there may be wires running along the transmission area too. If you cannot get a nut on the end of the bolts going through, then you will not be able to anchor it properly. If you just using sheet metal screws they may not hold unless they are large and strong enough to support the weight, and later abuse of accidentally kicking the assembly with your feet - expect this to happen.
4.) As you drill these holes, go very slow, because drill bits like to grab at the carpet and they rip it apart. It is suggested that you use an awl first to widen and punch through the carpet. Always put the drill on the lowest and slowest setting until you are all the way through the carpet.
5.) Once you install the cradle, always follow the manufacturer's suggestions for hooking up the rest of the system, you will find these in the box along with the cradle.
Take your time and do this right. Make sure you use good lighting and a flashlight to guarantee you will not drill through the wrong things, as you could void the warranty on your car if you do. Please consider all this, and remember measure twice to drill once.
