what should be the brake pad thickness?

what should be the front brake pad thickness? I took mine off and measure the pads.. It a touch under 11/16 of a inch.. Should I just throw some new ones on... I just rather be safe then sorry... Or should I wait for the pads to get smaller.. I drive a suzuki xl-7 suv. second set with little over 50,000miles on them...
