Do you know those people who say things but when it comes time to own up to what they said, that can't remember? You know when they were talking to you things were crystal clear. There was no doubt in your mind or confusion on your part as to what was being said or by whom. But somehow though the story gets twisted, forgotten or didn't exist. These same people can't recall or can't remember saying anything or claim they never said it at all. It is amazing how suddenly they develop a case of "Selective Amnesia, a.k.a. SA." Where is that lie detector test or truth serum when you need it? Why can't that truth serum be filtered through the air or added to the company's coffee pot, drinking water or to the drinks at a party? Wouldn't honesty make for great conversation in the cafeteria or amongst friends?

If only I could keep a hidden tape recorder on me and record every conversation; it would feel rewarding to expose a liar. Whatever happened to "Honesty is the Best Policy"? Why are people always trying to CYA? These are the same people who are at their religious institutions atoning or confessing their sins. It seems okay to clear their slate and start a new page as soon as they are out the front door. I don't know, but maybe there is a prize awarded to the one who can CYA the most or wrack up SA points. Maybe we just haven't been invited to play the game. I wish it were Kick-The-Can, there is a lot of good CAN kicking to be done. But what do we do in the meantime?

These selective amnesia people are the same ones who will frequently use other people as scapegoats and never take blame for their mistakes. It is always someone else's fault or problem and never their own. On the flip side, when there's credit to be given, they always manage to be at the front of the line. How does that happen?

While lying or blaming another individual, do you think they take into consideration how their words may impact other people or how they may emotionally scar someone or how they hurt someone's feelings? Do you think these SA players care? Do you think they have a guilty bone in their body? Sometimes I wonder if they really do have selective amnesia or maybe they are in the early stages of Alzheimer's with their forgetfulness. I am not sure what the case may be, except they never learned "RIGHT from WRONG" or they ignored it.

These people can certainly make you doubt yourself and start wondering whether or not you are hallucinating or going crazy. If you speak up and say anything you are made to feel like the guilty party; as though it was your entire fault. An amazing quality about these people is how they can keep a straight face, Academy Award Nominees. My face would become flush if I lied or start twitching for being nervous telling the lie. The SA players are smooth talkers, conniving and can convince people of everything they say. These people can be intimidating. How do we expose these people? How do we get the truth out? I am not sure how this dilemma gets resolved. My only hope is eventually they trip up or the saying "What goes around comes around" is true. The first big impact of the Supreme Court’s decision lifting restrictions on certain corporation campaign spending may be at the American Civil Liberties Union, which, after years of opposing restrictions on free speech grounds, is considering whether to reverse course and endorse government limits on money in politics.
