Cloverfield reflection/questions and your opinions?

Ok guys, I saw Cloverfield last night and ever since i have not been able to shake that sadness that movie laid on me. I think the ending maybe the most gut wrenching thing i have ever seen/heard in a movie. I know my heart shattered into pieces because of that and I gotta say that i wasnt expecting such a deep moment from that film. But to be perfectly honest, without the caring for the characters factor, there really isnt much that is great about the movie. Pretty standard monster movie fair with a crap camera decision. I dunno, gutwrenching and hella depressing for me, any thoughts guys/gals ( I thought it deserved some talking about) Also anyone got any ideas about where the big bad guy came from?

are you kidding me? Cloverfield is a smash hit! it's a movie that's ideal for the facebook/myspace generation and it showed a lot of things young americans want to see (beautiful people partying, great views of nyc, the us military fighting "terrorists" in nyc) If you were expecting character development and an interesting storyline, guess what? this is an action movie. people pay to see shooting and explosions. It might have been sad if you were in someway affected by 9/11 (buildings falling etc), but for the rest of the viewing public, this is sweet azz shoot em up movie making gold

as for the alien origin: if you look closely at the end scene where the 2 main characters are in a ferris wheel with the camera facing the ocean... on the right side of the screen a small object falls from the sky at high speed into the water.
