All Rabbit corkscrews include a 10-year manufacturer's warranty. This Deluxe Model Rabbit® Corkscrew comes in a handsome "Rabbit Hutch" case for storage, and includes a Velvet Foil Cutter and an Extra Spiral in the attractive storage case. A great gift for wine lovers, this powerful, award-winning tool effortlessly extracts the cork from any wine bottle with simple lever action. Gripping handles clamp on the bottle neck; pushing down the lever drives the tough corkscrew into the cork, and raising the lever pulls the cork out cleanly. Releasing the cork from the screw involves the same action, only with the gripping handles clamped on the cork. For strength and longevity this model is ruggedly constructed of die-cast metal and reinforced nylon, giving it the heft of a fine, precise high-tech tool. The device owes its name to handles and levers resembling rabbit ears, and gear housing shaped like the head of a bunny. Metrokane corkscrews are independently tested for 20,000 cork pulls; tests assume replacement of the spiral after 1,000 pulls. Accompanying the cork puller is a foilcutter that strips away the foil covering a cork. Both the cork puller and foilcutter fit into a handsome storage case with a hinged lid. The cork puller carries a 10-year warranty against failure. --Fred Brack

Creating a watertight metal roof, whether a DIY standing seam roofing project, or any other kind of metal roof, can be a far more complex process that initially contemplated - particularly if using pre colored sheeting, where painting over waterproofing is not a viable option. Here are a few of the basics you need to consider to make sure you have a leak proof metal roof.

When undertaking a DIY standing seam roof, or another metal roofing project, investigating these waterproofing tips will certainly offer a roof with a much longer lifespan!

Metal Sheet Fixings

Choosing the right fixing for your new metal roofing is critical. Factors to be considered are the base structure - is it timber or wood? The type of sheeting also plays a role, with regards to the length of fixing, as does the sheet finish - galvanized sheeting requires galvanized screws or nails, while zincalume requires a zincalume screw or nail.

Most important, choose a fixing with a built in cap. These are both weatherproof, being plastic, and help coordinate with color sheeting - the cap being available in a range of colors. DIY standing seam roofing projects in particular can be made much easier by using the right fixings!

Sealant

There are a variety of sealants around, the two major groups being silicone or mastic. Silicone has the benefit of being available in a clear variant, therefore being invisible once applied. Mastic however, often offers a much longer lifespan, since it does not dry out or shrink.

Polyclosures

Polyclosures are die cut polyester foam rubber strips, cut to follow the contour of the sheet profile. Fitted under flashings, and secured with silicone or mastic, they prevent wind driven moisture from entering the roof space under the flashings. Most companies offering wholesale metal roof materials will also offer a specifically designed polyclosure for the profile you choose.

Flashings

Depending of the layout of your roof, you may require any one, or a combination of sidewall, headwall, ridge, hip or apron flashings, or perhaps another specialized flashing altogether. Flashings are generally affixed after the metal roof sheeting is completely laid and trimmed, and affixed using stainless steel or aluminum rivets. These rivets should then be sealed with silicone or mastic. Careful planning when deciding how to install a metal roof will mean that you have all of these, and other accessories on hand, and don't experience any delays!

Where chimneys are fitted lower on a pitched roof, a special flashing is generally manufactured. Called a soaker sheet, they are designed to channel all water that would accumulate behind a chimney around the chimney and off the roof, thereby preventing water from damming up behind chimneys and damaging the metal sheeting.

Laps

Roof sheeting is always laid lengthways, so that the pan, or channels, can divert water off the roof. The sheets always overlap, known as a side lap, usually by one rib. However, on very low pitches, particularly when using a poor water channeller such as corrugated sheeting, double laps (two rib overlaps) may be a good idea.

It is also never a good idea to end lap a sheet. This means to overlap the sheet lengthways with another sheet. While it may save money in the short term, the overlap will almost always be the site of rust, since water will seep between the two sheets and accumulate there. Asking a roofing professional for metal roof installation instructions can certainly help avoid this kind of mistake!

When in doubt with regards to waterproofing accessories for your metal roof, whether a DIY standing seam roofing project, or otherwise, it would be advisable to seek out a roofing professional or sheeting manufacturer for advice. Many offer free advisory, or even estimating services, to help you make the right choices for you roof.

Tap and Dies

Taps and dies are tools used for cutting threads while usually sold in sets they are in fact individual tools. A tap is which looks like a bolt if used for making the female thread (nut) and the die which resembles a nut is used to make the male thread (bolt).

Usually made from HSS (high speed steel) alloy steel and are extremely robust and have very hard cutting edges. This is needed as both the tap and dies have threads like those on nuts and bolts that are used to bore threads in smooth metal. A tap screws into a hole and makes it in to a threaded hole and a die puts a thread in to smooth shafts.

These tools are most commonly used to repair threads that have been striped or crossed.

Using a Tap

When using a tap care must be taken not to break the tap off mid repair. Due to the type of steel and heat treatment used to get the hard cutting edge taps can be quite brittle. If a piece of the tap id broken off in a hole it can be extremely hard to remove it and as the tap will probably harder that the average drill bit even drilling it out is not always an option.

However if used properly you shouldn't have any problems. Usually they get broken by bending not twisting and in most sets a "T" handle will be supplied allowing you to easily turn the tap without bending it. Generally most problems are caused by trying to turn a tap with an inappropriate tool like mole pliers.

When preparing to you a tap to create a thread its essential that you drill the correct size hole for the tap that you are using to small and will be very hard to cut the thread and you will likely break the tap and too large and the thread will not be cut deep enough and easily striped.

Tap Drill Chart

Tap Size mm | Drill Size mm

2.3                   1.9
2.6                   2.1
3.0                   2.5
3.5                   2.9

Once you have the correct size hole using the "T" handles turn the tap in to the hole. As the tap cuts strips of metal will be pushed out of the flutes (grooves). To prevent the flutes becoming clogged up, this is done by turning the tap backwards and braking the metal strips up. Ideally you should turn the tap one half turn or until you feel increased resistance then turn back a quarter turn. On very deep holes it would be advisable to completely withdraw the tap from time to time.

It is also advisable to use some king of cutting fluid you can buy special cutting fluid but if you are using the tap but hand any general oil will do the job.

Using a Die

To repair a crossed threads on a bolt simply select the die from your set that is an exact fit for the bolt. It's advisable to apply a drop of oil to the bolt and run the die down the bolt. If the die gets tight and you feel high resistance just run the die back up the bolt and start again.

To create threads on a smooth shaft select a die that just smaller than the size of the shaft and a couple of drops of oil on the die blades and work the die down the shaft. As with the tap a half turn should be followed by a quarter turn back to prevent the die from becoming clogged.
