The bricklayer's tool kit must be used with great care and properly maintained, firstly, because of the safety aspect arid secondly, because the tools can be of great expense.
When purchasing tools, consideration must be taken on how often the tools will be used. With every day use, the tools have to be made to be able to withstand the work. Often this is not the case with less expensive tools.

Brick Trowel

Hawk

Gauge Rod
Inexpensive as you make it yourself. A length of timber with the vertical spacing of the bricks marked along one edge. Used when working from both ends of a wall to ensure that the courses are equal.

Brick Bat Gauge
Another inexpensive tool which is able to be made. Easy to use when a lot of cutting is required and maintains a regular size to the cuts. The one illustrated is made for the three most basic cuts used. Half bat, three quarter bat and closer.

Brick Hammer and Comb Hammer
Two similar types of hammer, one with a fixed head, the other with detachable blades. (coffee tables) When the teeth have worn down, the blades can be renewed. They can be used for a number of jobs:

i. tidying the edges of cuts to leave a clean edge
ii. for what is known as chasing, i.e. letting cables into walls before plastering

Again, safety is of the utmost importance. Goggles must be worn at all limes and hands and fingers must be kept clear.

Steel Tape
The types most commonly used by bricklayers these days. Very convenient size and is easily transported via the belt or pocket. When used in wet conditions it must be wiped after use to prevent rusting.

Jointing Tools
Used for putting a finish to the joints in brick work. A half-round joint which is also known as a bucket handle finish. Two types are shown, these can now be bought from shops but an old pail or bucket handle can be bent to a suitable shape.

How do I fix messed up car paint.?

Ok.... So I had a couple scratches down to the metal on my car and I stupidly decided to try to fix it myself. So I bought a touch-up kit which included very fine sand paper. Well after following the directions and applying the included finishing compound, I still have two giant dull gray spots on my car where I sanded the excess paint/clear-coat off.

Other than having those panels repainted, do I have any options? Did I just strip off the wax/finish? Will a product like 3M Scratch Remover fix it?

If I run my finger over the dull portion, it feels that it is at the same level as the rest of the paint, just a different texture (which I hope is because of the scratches). Does anyone think that a body shop will buff those spots for me for not too much?

When you were sanding, you should have used 1500 or 2000 grit sand paper and no less than this. You should have wetsanded the clearcoat, watching to make sure that all the wet sludge material being sanded off was white (the color of clearcoat). If any of the wet sludge was the color of the paint, you have stripped the clear down to the base colorcoat.

Basically, you can keep sanding off layers of clear coat and it will still polish back to a shine. If you sand all the clearcoat off and go all the way down to the colorcoat layer underneath, you've ruined it. The colorcoat will never buff to a shine.

If there is some clearcoat left and you did not sand all the way down to the colorcoat, then maybe all you need to do is polish the clearcoat a lot better. Start with red then green Turtlewax compound. If you are handpolishing it may take a long, long time before you see results. Bodyshops usually use a powerbuffer for polish.
